Claude Brown for Strathmore Town Council

Conserving our parks and wetlands so that they can be enjoyed by generations to come
In addition to being critical of future bylaws, an undertaking must be done to review older land-use bylaws.
Earlier this year, we learned of a new development which will be at the end of Park Lane Way. The new development will put condos right to the edge of wetlands on the former property of George Freeman. The zoning for this area was done over 20 years ago, and permits were issued to begin the development based on the established zoning.
Regrettably, the town was unsuccessful in revoking the permits to the developer and lost on appeal. With this new development, we can now expect and must mitigate the traffic congestion that will occur on Park Lane Road between Thomas Drive and 2nd Avenue. The bigger loss however, is the development infringing on the wetlands directly behind it.
If elected I will motion a review of existing land-use bylaws on undeveloped land to ensure the existing land-use bylaws are still appropriate in the current context. Where possible, the town should plan to preserve ponds or create park-space for the future.
I need your support to advocate for development that can co-exist with the natural splendor of the prairies.
Conserving our Quality of Life
Our town has wonderful natural places and a way of life worth preserving, but what do residents need daily, monthly, or yearly from what Strathmore provides?

The answer - Quality of of Life.

The best any government can do is to act responsibly and spend on what citizens truly need, nothing more.
