Claude Brown for Strathmore Town Council

Conserving our way of life and small-town feel
In the summer of 2024, I initiated and delivered a petition to the Town of Strathmore in regards to bylaw 24-14 “The Garden and Garage Suites” bylaw. We garnered over 620 signatures in less than 60 days going door to door. When presented on September 18th, the petition was deemed insufficient and council did not repeal the bylaw; however, the impact of the petition did open a dialogue that had not existed prior to its passing.
Citizens became aware of the bylaw's implementation and resulting impacts, more dialogue ensued between constituents and the town. To the credit of those who signed the petition the council has since repealed the language introduced in this bylaw on June 4th, 2025. I am very grateful to have been the conduit that allowed that dialogue to happen.

Following through on this repeal was very important. Beyond this, it is equally important to have a voice on council that is critical and forward thinking to recognize often overlooked ramifications of any future land use bylaws.
I am asking for your support so I may be your voice.
Conserving our Parks and Wetlands
More dialogue is needed regarding not only recent bylaws and zoning but even past zoning decisions which may bring forth new impacts if overlooked.
Reflecting and revisiting past bylaws can also protect Strathmore's surrounding and local wetlands and parks. Read about how we can develop our town in a more responsible manner.
